Are you aware of the history of Chiropractic Care?  Let us give you a brief overview...

Chiropractic is well established in the United States, Canada, and Australia.[18] It overlaps with other manual-therapy professions such as osteopathy and physical therapy.[19] Most who seek chiropractic care do so for low back pain.[20] Back and neck pain are considered the specialties of chiropractic, but many chiropractors treat ailments other than musculoskeletal issues.[4] Many chiropractors describe themselves as primary careproviders,[4][21] but the chiropractic clinical training does not support the requirements to be considered primary care providers.[2] Chiropractic has two main groups: "straights", now the minority, emphasize vitalism, "innate intelligence", and consider vertebral subluxations to be the cause of all disease; "mixers", the majority, are more open to mainstream views and conventional medical techniques, such as exercise, massage, and ice therapy.[22]

D. D. Palmer founded chiropractic in the 1890s,[23] after saying he received it from "the other world",[24] and his son B. J. Palmer helped to expand it in the early 20th century.[23]Throughout its history, chiropractic has been controversial.[25][26] Its foundation is at odds with mainstream medicine, and has been sustained by pseudoscientific ideas such as subluxation and innate intelligence.[27] Despite the overwhelming evidence that vaccinationis an effective public health intervention, among chiropractors there are significant disagreements over the subject,[28] which has led to negative impacts on both public vaccination and mainstream acceptance of chiropractic.[29] The American Medical Association called chiropractic an "unscientific cult" in 1966[30] and boycotted Fairy Doors it until losing an antitrust case in 1987.[21] Chiropractic has had a strong political base and sustained demand for services; in recent decades, it has gained more legitimacy and greater acceptance among conventional physicians and health plans in the United States.[21]

Will adjustments hurt my baby?

Why do Mothers-to-be Rave About Chiropractic?

At first glance, most people don’t see the connection between chiropractic care and pregnancy. However there are four stages in which having an optimally working nervous system and structural support help both mother and child.

Including chiropractic care, along with other wellness habits, as part of your prenatal care creates an optimum environment for your baby to realize his or her full potential.

More and more new parents are trusting the innate wisdom of the body. They’re looking for a professional who can partner with them supply information, coach, encourage and use natural approaches that honor mother and baby. We’d like to be that resources for you.

More and more knowledgeable couples and choosing home births, assisted by experienced midwives.

Chiropractic care prior to conception promotes a more regular menstrual cycle and optimal uterine function. It prepares the body to be strong, supple and as balanced as possible to carry the pregnancy. Many couples who thought they were infertile have been helped by restoring proper nerve supply to reproductive organs.

Take a proactive Approach to your Pregnancy

Our pregnant patient often report shorter, more pleasant deliveries when they receive chiropractic care

- Pregnancy

Regular chiropractic care during pregnancy helps during maintain balance, alignment and flexibility. Many report less morning sickness. When the baby is comfortable, it can assume the optimal birthing position.

- Labor and Birth

Mother who get adjusted seem to require less high-tech intervention. Most report shorter, less traumatic births. With proper nerve supply, well-timed contractions help move the baby more easily through birth canal.

- Post Delivery

Even natural births can stress a baby’s spine. Breastfeeding problems can arise if the baby is unable to comfortably turn its head. Schedule a chiropractic checkup for your newborn as soon as possible.

You can relax, knowing we use a light touch to make our adjustment safe, comfortable and effective.

Nursing irregularities often suggest that birth trauma has caused a subluxation, making it uncomfortable for the baby to turn its head.

  • Pregnancy is natural. Why is chiropractic necessary?

Being born is a natural process. It’s what we’ve done to the birth process that has become increasingly suspect. In hospitals, a severe drop in temperature, loud noises, suction extraction and other insensitivities often accompany a newborn’s introduction to the world. The administration of drugs and anesthesia can have unfortunate effects, too.

  • Will my medical doctor approve?

You don’t need anyone’s approval to seek a chiropractic opinion about health issues affecting you or your child. Consulting another health care expert is always helping in the decision-making process. We work closely with other practitioners who keep up with the latest research and understand the value of this natural, drug-free approach to better health.

  • Will adjustment hurt my baby?

Of course not. An infant’s spine rarely has the long-standing muscle tightness seen in adults. So the energy needed to adjust a child’s spine is considerable less than what’s needed to adjust you. This is a common concern among parents who mistakenly think their child will receive the same kind of adjustment they receive.

With pregnancy come hormonal change, a shift in body weight and a laxity of connection tissues. New stresses are experienced by the lower back and pelvis .many women report that their pregnancies were easier and their delivery times shorter when they received chiropractic care.

Even today’s birthing procedures can put tremendous pressures on a child’s spine. And while the injury from forceps deliveries may be less common today, vacuum extraction and eager hands can do even more damage by pulling, forcing and twisting the baby’s young spine.

Without the language to explain, many newborns experience colic, unexplained crying, lack of appetite, frequent ear infectious or other signs of poor health. A chiropractic examination is essential to determine if birth trauma to the spine is involved.

Then if indicated, a gentle, life-affirming adjustment is given. With no more pressure than you’d use to test the ripeness of a tomato, nerve-compromising subluxations can be reduced. Almost miraculously, many parents see instant improvements in the well-being of their child. Chiropractor Seattle

Later, regular chiropractic checkups are helpful to monitor spinal development as infants sit upright, support their heads, learn to crawl and take their first brave steps. Many experts believe that uncorrected spinal problems during this early stage of development cause the chronic, hard-to-correct subluxations seen in adults.

Sadly, bedwetting and many childhood aches and pains are passed off as “growing pains” or “just a phase they’re going through.” Careful! Aches and pains at any age are a sign that something isn’t right. Subluxations may be involved.

As you make decisions about your baby’s health care and are confronted with the issues of antibiotics, vaccinations and the growing use of behavior altering drugs, consult with chiropractor. Seek accurate information and make an informed choice. First, make sure your child has the best chance to be all that he or she be by having a nervous system free of subluxations.

  • How can something as natural as being born cause subluxations?

Being born is a natural phenomenon. It’s what we’ve done to the birth process that has become increasingly suspect. A newborn’s introduction to the world is often accompanied by a severe drop in temperature, loud noises and other insensitivities. The administration of drugs and anesthesia can have a profound effect on a newborn.

  • Will my pediatrician approve of chiropractic care for my child?

First, you don’t need anyone’s approval to seek a chiropractic opinion about health issues affecting your child! Medical practitioners keeping up with up with the latest pediatric chiropractic research are starting to understand the value of this natural, drug-free approach to better health.

  • Will adjustments hurt my baby?

This common concern among parents who mistakenly think that their child will receive adjustments like the ones they receive. Adjusting techniques are modified for each person’s size and unique spinal problem, and an infant’s spine rarely has the long-standing muscle tightness seen in adults. This makes a child’s chiropractic adjustments gentle, comfortable and effective.
